This is a true story about an event in my (Erik Loebl) life and the way that God brought me through a serious situation, as well as how it impacted my family.

We were able to walk through a great darkness, and God is the Light that has brought us through. The Lord has had a plan from the beginning and I am just His vessel. It is yet to be seen, what the Lord has planned, but the journey so far has been very interesting.

Perhaps, portions of His plan have taken place without me actually knowing about it. It is great to know that even though I was the recipient of all of what happened, the Lord was at work in the lives of many others.

It is my intent that this story will encourage someone else, and they will know that God can do the same thing for them that He has done for me since He is partial to no one (Deuteronomy 10:17, Acts 10:34).

In the Bible, Isaiah 9:2 says:
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

This story is told from personal experience as well as objectively from my family, what I was told from the MRI, and the doctors who were involved with the operation. If asked, each person would have a different opinion of what actually happened in this event.

I can testify to these events since I personally went through this. Some of the events I do not remember, or I was coherent like when the operation took place, and the time immediately after the operation, only my wife would know about those (see part 14 for how this affected individual family members). These were items I was told about. All I know is that God watches over His servant while he/she is unconscious and guides the hands of the doctors when the person can not do anything about the situation.

I don’t think many have come through a surgery like mine and have told about it. They may have lived through the situation, but have not written about it. Currently I have been married for 13 years and have 4 children. My children range in age (currently) from a 9 year old girl, 7 year old boy, 4 year old girl, 3 year old boy. They are all very young at the time this is written.

Not everyone gets to go through this, nor would I recommend this kind of operation to everyone. There is a saying “God cannot steer a parked car”, so now I am car in motion, and God gets to determine my steps. When I asked the Lord, “Why did I have to go through this?” the response seemed to be, “why not you?” I am a very consistent person, and I suppose the Lord was looking for someone who would be the same after the surgery as before the surgery, as well as go through the whole surgery ordeal.

We are about to bring this decade and year to a close, so a happy New Year from me.

I have begun to start making goals for the new year, 2010, then I thought, “What about writing down all the good things that have happened over the year and decade.”

This decade brought us 3 children, another house to live in, and some new financial opportunities.

So here are the highlights of the decade:

2000 – I become a trainer at “Computer Technology Research Education Center”, CTREC.
2001 – I start full time contract work at Centerpoint Energy.
2002 – We have our 3rd child, Gabriela, in August.
2003 – My dad built an addition onto our small 1st house on Maribelle Way.
2004 – We have our 4th child, Josiah, in January, and we move to our 2nd house in November.
2005 – I have my head surgery.
2006 – My first book, a supernatural book, “A Light in the Midst of Darkness” is published.
2007 – I started contract work with Shell Oil & Gas.
2008 – I started contracting work with Geokinetics.
2009 – Our 5th child, Clarissa, was born in September.

Financially, we stair stepped from:

2000 – $25.00/hr (full time)
2001 – $27.50/hr (contract)
2007 – $50.00/hr (contract)
2008 – $60.00/hr (contract)

My goal for 2010 is $300,000 for the year. I believe I have laid the foundational work in 2007-2009.

I believe I have maxed out what I can make an hour so I have set my sights on alternative forms of income generation, and those on the internet.

The internet is a “powerhouse” because you have access to the eyeballs that you would not ordinarily have access to.

Here are our 1990-1999 stats, since I never did these:

1990 – Adriana and I graduate from High School. She’s a Spring Woods graduate, I’m a Stratford graduate.
1991 – I started “Texas Bible College”. I was mowing lawns, and living at home.
1992 – I started working at WW Grainger, in a warehouse ($8.50/hr).
1993 – Adriana and I get married in November. We bought house #1 on an assumption in October.
1994 – I graduated from “Texas Bible College” in June.
1995 – 1996 – We did a lot of youth work with and inner city youth ministry, Hope for Youth and home bible studies these years.
1997 – We have our 1st child, Kayla, in July.
1998 – I would only take a computer related job, and got hired by CTREC, “Computer Technology Research Education Center”. I was working as an inventory clerk ($11.50/hr)
1999 – We have our 2nd child, Jonathan, in February.

I know in my case that it was an indelible fact in my mind, that I wasn’t supposed to be in the hospital bed and I needed to get back home again. My religious belief is Christianity, so I happen to believe that God, who has the ultimate say in this whole life/death matter, put the ambition in me to get out of that hospital and continue living.

He is the one who does the ultimate healing, I am supposed to believe it and move ahead.

The feast lasts 8 days, and commemorates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem. Many miracles happened during the feast of Hannukah. The Maccabees stood against the Greek/Syrian army in 165 BC, and defeated those wanting to defile the Temple of God. God was their strength. There was no way for a little army of the Maccabees to go up against the Greek/Syrian army unless God was on their side. The Bible is replete with these kinds of stories, David (a little shepherd) defeats a mighty giant Goliath in I Samuel 17, Gideon and 300 men against the Midianites in the book of the Judges. Joshua at the battle of Jericho, and more recently, the 6 day war.

Zechariah 4:6 says:

6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.

God did a miracle then, not only for the army of the Maccabees, but the oil for the lamp which should have lasted only 1 day, lasted 8 days.

I know God has made a little of my money, which should have lasted only a little time, last longer than expected. I am sure you can testify to this as well. It may not be money. Maybe food, clothing, your house, whatever.

Since I do a lot of contract work, that’s all I do, God has made the contract extend past the date it was supposed to stop. You can say what you want, “companies normally do that”, but I believe that God was responsible for it. (That’s my story, and I am sticking to it!)

The feast of Hanukkah teaches us a few things:

1. Religious liberty and the right people have to celebrate their faith freely.

2. We are the temple of God. We need to rededicate ourselves to God. We need to purify our hearts and change.

Psalm 101:2 says, “I will walk in my house with blameless heart.”

Read it, it will put you in check. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman, this verse knocks me into shape.

3. We need to discern for ourselves, our family, and our children the society we are a part of, and choose the good things and reject the evil things.

This is what I pray for my kids, I have 5, “Let them choose the good, and reject the bad”.

The same was in ancient times “Hellenism” (Romanistic secularism) was an attractive option for the Jews. The Jews could leave their faith and move toward this popular “modern and secular” way of life, just like the “secular” way of life is a popular option for folks today.

4. Trust in God

It took great trust in God for the Maccabees to stand up for right, and fight against the Greek/Syrian army, and stand against the “Hellenistic”, secular, society.

It also took a great faith to light the candle in the temple, knowing it would quite possibly go out in 24 hours, unless God did some kind of miracle. Whether or not it would go out, the light had to be lit.

Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when faced with being thrown in the fiery furnace, they said in Daniel 3:16:

“16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up”.

God chose to do a miracle that day for the 3 Hebrew children, and He made the oil in the lamp in the temple last for 8 days.

Well, let me tell you the result of my Thanksgiving plan. I gave each of our 4 children $80 cash. I told them to tell me by Tuesday 11/24, if the Lord put someone on their heart to give the gift to. 3 said they were not impressed with anyone and 1 said he was.

So I asked my wife, and she told me of a family’s name. This family just happens to have 6 kids and they live very humbly. She said the Lord put them on her heart.

They received $240 cash in an envelope and another fellow (a homeless man) received the other $80. May the Lord bless both of them. Next year, I would like to double the amount.

I don’t know Tony Robbins personally, but it’s kind of amazing that we have several things in common. We are both interested in self improvement, both in enriching the lives of others, believe in a long term approach, however, I’m about 15 years younger than him, so he’s been doing this longer, and after seeing this video, I found out that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his early 30s, like myself.

(I don’t know if he had the operation or not).

Anyway, it was my goal to help 2 families this Thanksgiving and feed them for a month. The plan is to give out a HEB grocery gift certificate. That way the people can buy what they eat, and I don’t waste money on things they don’t eat or are allergic to. We’ll give it on Tuesday, so they can shop on Wednesday for Thanksgiving on Thursday.

1. Feed and strengthen your mind

Take control of your thoughts. Read, listen to positive messages (on tape, CD, or MP3), etc. Everyday, stand guard at the “door” of your mind. Feed your mind for around an hour a day. He mentions books like “As A Man Thinketh”
, and “Man’s Search For Meaning”

Constantly feed your mind with good things.

Go after and pursue the nourishment of your mind.

2. Feed and strengthen your body

Push yourself. Increase your heart rate. Lose weight. Eat healthier. Take a run, ride your bike, exercise, lift weights. Change your physiology get the blood flowing. Make yourself breakthrough your boundaries.

15 minutes, 5 days a week. Hour of power.

3. Get yourself a positive role model that inspires you and shows you the way.

There is a pathway to where you want to go. A guide will show you the path to take.

There are different ways to look at your issue (financial, health, or personal).

4. Get a plan, and take massive action.

Start moving. Progress means happiness. Take massive action.

5. Feed your spirit

Take a few moments out of your day to pray, meditate, or whatever you do spiritually.

What are you grateful for? Stop taking things for granted.

Find someone that is in a worse situation than you and give to help them out. You may think your life is tough, find someone with a worse issue.

Make a difference in some else’s life. Motive does matter. You are not here to get, but to give.
