Memories of Hurricane Rita
Hi everyone,
With Hurricane Ike swirling around in the Gulf of Mexico about to hit west of Freeport, Tx, I remember the day Hurricane Rita visited us here in Houston and I had my hospital episode.
I remember the mass exodus of those fleeing the storm. The freeways were jammed with people as Hurricane Rita closed in. I was cleaning the tubs out, ready to fill them with water, in case any water shortage happened. I remember telling my neighbor, “Don’t worry if the power goes out, we can cook on my propane grill.”
Later, I felt this pounding headache. The next thing I knew was that the ambulance driver and the fireman came to my house and wheeled me away on the gurny. That was before the actual storm hit. I spend the next 18 days at the hospital in ICU. The hospital was under lock down because of the storm. I was told that there was a lot of wind and some rain. That was around 9/22/2005.
Wow, it’s hard to believe that the whole event actually happened. People ask me if I was around during Hurricane Rita, so I say yes, I was in the hospital through the whole storm.
And yes, we’re going to ride out the storm, Hurricane Ike. Just like we did with Rita.
